As we discussed earlier, this is a personal blog. So, we will post whatever we can think of posting. There is a lot of content then, right? Well, not really. You might have heard about the quote “One who stands for everything stands for nothing.” This is what most professionals in the digital marketing or blogging industry see personal blogs to be. It is true in the corporate world, but we are not going to sell anything, particularly, so it doesn’t matter. On the other hand,
I believe in a personal blog you don’t claim specialization or a niche, but people assign a niche to you and might see you as a specialist. For example, Joe Rogan is famous for his liking of bears, so you would assume he knows a lot about bears. Now think of what would’ve happened. Joe Rogan thought he would only talk about bears and claim that niche. It wouldn’t have gotten him the fame he has garnered. It organically just happened, and he is still not bound by the niche of bears. He can do whatever and talk about whatever he wants, and this is exactly what a personal blog is like.
Now, that being said, we don’t necessarily know what we like, and we are not used to writing about it consistently. So, we will make use of a method called content pillars. I got to know it from a creator who posts about social media marketing on Instagram. You can check out her content on Instagram @sommedia.co
The point of content pillars is that you don’t have to think, “What should I post today?” This is ridiculously useful because it gives you structured options to choose from and keep experimenting in an orderly way. So in simple terms, just choose 3 or 4 categories you like to talk about. For me, I am choosing philosophy, health, and investing. I chose things I like to learn about instead of what I like. But there will be times when you don’t want to post these but something you have in mind. For that, we have the last category where you can write about whatever you want that doesn’t need to be under the content pillars. After all, this is to write about what we want to. The basic rule is to stay in the lane with the content pillars, at least for a month. Then you can change it. This way you can have actual data to make a decision.
Alright, now choose your content and comment it down. Let’s see what you thought. Can we meet in the next post? Bye.
