Spams happening to us is one thing but spam to our clients in the lead forms we created for them is a different one. This makes us seem like an amateur. You can be an amateur just like me but your clients don’t necessarily need one to be their marketer.

I recently checked one of the client’s contact form responses and got suspicious because they have been receiving leads every single day. This is not so common for a local business that is just expanding online. So I checked the responses. It was all like name: asdf, phone: asdf, etc. I first thought this was some person messing with the website. But it happened every day. Then I got to know it is spam by automated bots.

Do you need a plugin to prevent spam?

There are many ways to prevent spam, and many include plugins. But there is a simple way to prevent spam without any plugins.

Automated spam bots:

We have to understand these are not real people and just bots entering automatic information. So it can’t read, comprehend, and respond; at least the usual bots can’t. So, the simple solution is to just add a quiz. Yes, it can be like, What is the capital of India? Or just be what is 7+3? This approach will significantly reduce automated spam.

How to add the quiz?

You can just add by using the contact form input field or you can insert this code: [quiz quiz-name “What is the capital of France?|Paris”] or [quiz quiz-2 “What is 12+4? | 16”]
